From Jamaica Kincaid, author of seminal anti-colonialist essay "A Small Place," comes the semi-autobiographical novel "Lucy." In this short novel, Kincaid tells the story of Lucy, a young woman coming from the West Indies to the United States to be an au pair for a wealthy white family. Lucy navigates life in America, coming to be critical of much about the lives of the privileged, while also coming to terms with her past, especially her relationship to her mother. "Lucy" is a moving, hauntingly realistic story with a strong anti-colonial and feminist lens.
