Red Emma's is seeking an experienced and passionate vegan/vegetarian cook to join our kitchen crew this fall. Please send your resume and letter of interest to foodjob@redemmas.org, or drop a paper copy off at the store. Interviews will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled. Full-time applicants strongly encouraged to apply! Read on below for details ...

Red Emma's Baltimore's fastest-growing cooperative enterprise. Founded in 2003 as an experiment in workplace democracy and social justice organizing, we've grown over the last decade from a tiny basement storefront into a thriving worker-owned vegan/vegetarian restaurant, bookstore, events space, and coffee roastery. We're currently looking to add another person to our team of awesome cooks, and it might be you!

As a member of the cooks team, you'll be responsible for all manner of food preparation, from soups and sauces to entrees and desserts. Our ideal candidate is self-directed, with a strong sense of flavor and a love for vegan and vegetarian cooking. Excellent communication skills and a willingness to work as a part of a well-organized team are a must. This position is full-time (30+ hours), and will, over time, involve significant responsibility for sourcing, menu development, and shared managerial tasks such as scheduling and training.

All cooks start at a Baltimore City living wage of $11/hour, with pay bumps based on cumulative hours worked. Red Emma's does not currently provide benefits for workers, but a generous shift food allowance is included for all workers, as are as discounts for food, books, and other merchandise. All cooks have the option of joining the cooperative track and becoming a full worker-owner of the business with time; as a horizontal collective with democratic decision-making procedures, we look for individuals with the time, energy, and political motivations to make a long-term commitment to our business and our collective. Working at Emma's is more than a job; it's a kind of infrastructural activism.

Sound like your kind of place? Get in contact!
