We're Hiring! Thread's New Roaster Apprencticeship Program

Become a trained coffee roaster and learn about how to be a worker-owner in a collectively-run business!

Become an apprentice at an ethical coffee roasting company!  Thread Coffee, a Baltimore-based, small-batch roastery, seeks a coffee enthusiast to work at our cooperatively-run project that works to promote transparent trade and build sustainable long-term relationships with coffee farmers.  Experience with coffee is strongly preferred, experience roasting is a plus but not required. Being a small, collectively-run business, everyone is involved in all parts of the project – Thread seeks someone excited to help establish ourselves in the local, and global, Fair Trade coffee world and expand Thread's market reach and impact. The position will work directly with Thread’s lead roaster to become a trained coffee roaster, as well as working with Thread's salesperson and graphic designer to come up with a strategic marketing and sales plan.  The apprenticeship, upon completion of training, will consist of a roasting shift and 1-2 shifts at local farmer's markets selling coffee.

 

Responsibilities include:

-Working at local farmer’s markets

-Working on Thread’s production line to become an assistant roaster

-Assisting with day to day operations and development

-Blogging and social media

-Other administrative tasks

-Participation in meetings with the rest of the Thread Coffee team.

 

This apprenticeship position is part time for one year, with potential to become a full worker-owner at the end   Pay starts at $11/hour for apprenticeship period.
